Become a volunteer
Operating the North Platte Valley Museum would simply not be possible without the support of dedicated volunteers. Whether you can contribute 4 hours or 400, we'd love to have your help!
We have jobs for every interest:
assisting at special events like Kindergarten Days and Family Fun On The Trail
serving as museum host and greeting visitors, on weekends or weekdays
acting as museum guide for tour groups
assisting with newsletter and membership mailings
entering artifact data into the computer
tidying up the grounds and exhibits
maintaining the buildings
serving on a committee to help with collections management, special event planning, PR and promotions
We are working to build our corps of volunteers. If you can share your time and skills, please let us know!
Here are some specific tasks we need help with right now:
"Curb appeal" team leader - to coordinate people to keep the outside of the museum looking nice: sweep the sidewalk, trim tree sprouts, pull weeds, water the flowers/grass in season, rake leaves, pick up trash, etc.
"Dust buster" team leader - to coordinate people to keep the inside of the museum looking tidy: vacuum, clean glass, tidy bathrooms, dust exhibits, dust and sweep inside the sod and log houses, remove cobwebs, etc.
Gift shop manager - seeking a volunteer with retail experience to arrange and help stock the museum gift shop.
Sod house repair team leader - looking for someone to research and write a protocol for sod house repair and maintenance and to train a team of volunteers to become the soddy caretakers. Great project for a senior boy/girl scout.
Windmill painter - the paint is peeling and the wooden windmill is subject to weather damage. Must be able to work safely at that height.
Computer expert - to help us maintain our computer systems.
